Lance Dafadar Gobind Singh Rathore Lance Dafadar Gobind Singh Rathore (Victoria Cross) of Indian Cavalry showed most conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty in thrice volunteering to carry messages between the regiment and brigade headquarters, a distance of 1.5 miles............


 

Lt. Gen. Sagat Singh Lt Gen. Sagat Singh, the recipient of Padma Bhushan and Param Vishisht Seva Medal, was commissioned in the Jaipur State Forces. On amalgamation of the State Forces joined Third Gorkha Rifles. He commanded the Second and Third Battalions of the Third Gorkha Rifles. He was later the Colonel of the Third Gorkha Regiment from September 1969 to November 1976. In December 1970 he took over the command of HQ 4 Corps as a Lieutenant General, which led the famous advance to Dacca over the River Meghna during the 1971 Ops. He was present in Dacca at the time of the signing of the surrender by General Niazi..........

Hanut Singh Rathore Lt. Col. Hanut Singh Rathore (Maha Veer Chakra) of 17 Poona Horse with his Centurion tank, Kooshab. The regiment is one of the most decorated in the Armoured Corps and in 1965 it had already been awarded with one PVC, only to win another in 1971 at the Battle of Basantar in which 66 Pakistani tanks were destroyed...........


Sawai Bhawani Singh ji Jaipur
His Highness Maharaja Sawai Bhawani Singh ji (Maha Veer Chakra) of Jaipur commanded 10 ParaCammando (Special Forces) during the 1971 Indo-Pak War as a Lt. Col. On the night of 05 December 1971, he led his men deep into the enemy territory and for four days and nights, with complete disregard for his personal comfort and safety, made skillful and relentless raids on the strongly held enemy posts at Chachro and Virawah in Pakistan (Sindh)................

Zorawar Singh ShekhawatKnown to many as Zoru, George or Zorawar Singh Shekhawat (Maha Veer Chakra), Kunwar Zorawar Singh Shekhawat was born in Jaipur in 1920, the son of Major General Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, an officer in the Jaipur State Forces (Presently Rajputana Rifles) who was well known for his dashing character and famous among other things for being a nine handicap polo player. Zorawar was educated at the famous Royal Indian Military College (RIMC) and in due course entered the Indian Military Academy (IMA) at Dehradun where he was to prove to be an outstanding cadet, earning the Sword of Honour...............

Hav. Piru Singh ShekhawatCompany Havildar Major Piru Singh Shekhawat (Param Veer Chakra), was born on 20 May 1918 in village Rampura beri, district Churu, Rajasthan. He was enrolled in the 6 Rajputana Rifles on 20 May 1936. During the Jammu & Kashmir operations in summer of 1948, Pakistani raiders mounted a strong counter offensive in the Tithwal sector. The enemy also forced the Indian Army to vacate their forward positions acrossriver Kishanganga. After the setback, Indian troops took position on the Tithwal ridge.................

Major Shaitan Singh BhatiMajor Shaitan Singh Bhati (Param Veer Chakra), son of Lieutenant Colonel Hem Singhji, was born on 1 December 1942, in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. He was commissioned in the Kumaon Regiment on 1 August 1949. During the 1962 Indo-China conflict, 13 Kumaon was deployed in Chushul sector. The C Coy of the battalion led by Major Shaitan Singh held a crucial position at Rezang La, at a height of 5000 metres. The company area was defended by five platoon positions and the surrounding terrain isolated it from the rest of the battalion..............

Late Lt. Col. Kamal Singh, MVCLt. Col. Kaman Singh (Mahaveer Chakra), On 16 May 48, during Kasmir Ops, 3rd Bn. the R. Garh Rif. less one Coy were given the task of securing TRAHGAM ridge, Two Coys had moved out at night with the object of securing ring contour behind the ridge and advancing on a from the near, while the 3rd Coy lannched a frontal attack, supported by Armoured Cars, from firm hase at PETHAHIR.....

 

Risaldar Dhonkal SinghRissaldar Dowkul Singh : For conspicuous gallantry during the retreat from Maiwand on the 27th July 1880, on which occasion he was instrumental in saving the life of Lieutenant H. S. Anderson, 1st Bombay Native Infantry, who was severely wounded, and in the attack on the village of Deh Khojah, near Kandahar, on the 16th August 1880...................

 

Major Puran Singh Bika Major Puran Singh Bika of 13 Grenadiers (Ganga Risala, the former Bikaner State forces) belonged to Bikaner in Rajasthan. During the 965 Indo-Pak war, Major Singh was commanding a long range border patrol in Rajasthan. During the early hours of 31 Oct 1965, he bumped into a strongly held and well dug in enemy position and some of his men were encircled by the enemy. Major Singh deployed his remaining men so that the enemy was himself almost encircled.

 


Lt. Col. Raghubir Singh RajawatLt. Col. Raghubir Singh Rajawat, (Mahaveer Chakra) was commanding a battalion of the Rajputana Rifles Regiment during the battle of Asal Uttar. Between 7 and 10 September 1965, the unit was attacked by Pakistani forces...................

 

 

Rifleman Dhonkal Singh (Mahaveer Chakra) Rifleman Dhonkal Singh (Mahaveer Chakra) of 6th Rajputana Rifles on 29th April,1948 of 6th Rajputana Rifles was guiding a platoon along a narrow ridge through a pine forest, in Kashmir when the enemy opened fire with a light machine gun........

Barely had the Pakistanis returned from their pre- emptive strikes on 3rd December, 7th Rajputana Rifles quickly captured Dhallai an enemy post on Tripura border. On 9/10 December the battalion was involved in a ferocious battle for Mynamati. Skillfully led by Lt. Col. A. S. Brar, they made an approach march of 12 km to surprise the enemy. Naik Sugan Singh twice crawled up to enemy pill boxes.......

 

Sqn Ldr Chandan Singh During the Indo-China conflict of 1962, Sqn Ldr Chandan Singh (Mahaveer Chakra, Veer Chakra, Atti Vishistt Seva Medal) was detailed to carry out supply dropping in the Chipchap area in Ladakh. On reaching the dropping zone, he noticed that the outposts were under heavy fire from the Chinese forces. He successfully dropped vital supplies to our garrison although his aircraft was hit 19 times by enemy ground fire. During this action, Sqn Ldr Chandan Singh displayed courage and devotion to duty in carrying out the task in complete disregard of his personal safety......................
